Free up hard drive space using WinDirStat

Stan shows an easy way to see and clean the files that are hogging hard drive space in the computer using a free software called "windirtstat". Now enter the following address in the web browser "windirtstat.info" and scroll down the page until you get the downloading and installing section. Click on the link "windirtstat1.1.2Setup(Ansi&Unicode)" which will be right after the "for all flavors of windows" this will direct you to "SOURCEFORGE.NET" download creations. This will ask you to save the file. Save it or open it or run it if you had saved the file double click on the file to open the installer. Confirm the security warnings if any. Accept the license and click "NEXT". Again, click "NEXT" unless you wish to customize the settings and click "INSTALL". Click "NEXT" when you're done and the program will start to run immediately when you click "CLOSE". Now it will ask "which drive to scan". If you have more than one, after selecting the drive click "OK". It will take few minutes to scan and shows up a window which is divided into the three parts the top right part shows different color code for different file types,the top left part shows the percentage of space occupied by the specific file types in the drive. The bottom portion of the windows shows the different types of files present in your drive in the form of color patterns. By simply clicking on the color codes present in the bottom portion you can see how much space it has occupied in your drive and also by clicking on the color tabs present in the top right portion of the window you can visually see how much space does the particular type of files have occupied in your drive. With this tool, you can estimate which file has taken the larger space easily without counting the numbers.
