How to View the Technical Details of Any Video File with GSpot

If you want to know more information about your videos, like its exact codec used and exact values for duration, frame rate, bit rate, etc., using the Properties function in Microsoft Windows won't do.

For this, you'll need a special tool.

Step 1 Download GSpot

Here, I'll be using the GSpot Codec Information Appliance, which can be downloaded for free here (without any viruses).

Operating systems: Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2K, XP, and Vista.

Step 2 Install GSPot

Now install GSpot—this doesn't need any expert knowledge. Simply agree to the terms and install to any directory you prefer. Or you can use the default directory suggested by GSpot.

Step 3 Launch GSpot

Launch GSpot through its icon on your desktop. This is the main window displayed.
